How to Set Up a Weekly Email Bulletin for Your Church (And Why It Matters)
Sunday morning is not the only time your congregation needs to hear from you. The week between services is where people are living their lives, facing their challenges, and deciding whether faith is something they are going to carry into Tuesday or leave at the door on Sunday afternoon.
A weekly email bulletin is one of the simplest and most effective tools a church has for staying connected with its people between Sundays. Most churches either do not send one or send something so cluttered it gets ignored.
Here is how to do it well.
Keep it short
The number one mistake churches make with email is trying to put everything in. Every announcement, every event, every ministry update, all in one email that takes five minutes to scroll through.
Nobody reads it. They skim the first three lines and delete it.
A good church email bulletin has five or six items at most. The most important thing happening this week. A scripture or reflection. One or two announcements. A clear way to respond or get involved. That is it.
Send it on the same day every week
Consistency matters more than most churches realize. When your bulletin arrives every Tuesday morning at 8am without fail, people start to expect it. They look for it. It becomes part of their week.
When it arrives sometimes on Tuesday and sometimes on Thursday and sometimes not at all, it becomes something they ignore.
Pick a day and a time and send it every single week without exception.
Make it feel personal
The best church emails do not feel like newsletters. They feel like a letter from someone who knows you. Write in first person. Use your pastor's name. Talk about what is happening in the life of the church the way you would talk about it in conversation.
People can tell the difference between an email that was written by a person and one that was assembled by a committee. Write it like a person.
Use a real email platform
Sending a weekly email from a Gmail account to your whole congregation is not a long-term solution. It puts your domain at risk of being marked as spam, gives you no visibility into who is opening and clicking, and makes it nearly impossible to manage your list as it grows.
A proper email platform like Klaviyo handles deliverability, tracks engagement, and lets you segment your list so you can communicate differently with regular attenders versus occasional visitors versus volunteers.
We set up and manage church email programs starting at $299 per month. If you are ready to get serious about staying connected with your congregation, reach out.
